Our generic drugs: Over 310,000 Teva prescriptions in Canada each day
Teva Canada’s generic medication: We’ve been part of your family since 1965
As one of the first generic pharmaceutical companies in Canada, we are proud of the pioneering spirit of our beginnings and of our years serving the needs of Canadian healthcare.
In 1965, pharmacist Leslie Dan launched Novopharm Limited, which grew to become Canada’s largest generic pharmaceutical company. In 2000, Novopharm joined the Teva family of companies, and is known today as Teva Canada.
At Teva, quality is not a department, but a culture and philosophy that is built into everything we do. Our proactive approach is reflected in our outstanding track record. In 2014, when Health Canada asked Canadian companies to temporarily quarantine products made with certain active pharmaceutical ingredients, we were among the first companies permitted to re-release our products back to the market.
Over the past five years, we have hosted seven FDA, 14 Health Canada, 11 customer, and seven global inspections—with no critical observations received. This is thanks in part to our staff’s commitment to quality and to our global goal of operating in an “audit-ready” state at all times.
At every facility, quality control is the cornerstone of our operations, ensuring that the medicines we manufacture meet the highest standards of safety and effectiveness.
Our generic medications are produced in Ontario, in three fully integrated facilities for manufacturing high-quality, affordable pharmaceuticals. These Canadian facilities are also designated as “Centres of Excellence” within Teva globally—which means that they are noted as being integral players in the worldwide manufacturing network of Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd.
Teva Canada Centre of Excellence for Solid-Dose Products—Stouffville: One of the largest pharmaceutical manufacturing centres in North America, this facility employs more than 300 people and produces more than 400 different formulations, primarily for the North American market.
Teva Canada Centre of Excellence for Penicillin Products—Markham: This facility, which employs nearly 250 people, is the largest penicillin plant in Canada and the fifth-largest in the world. Here, we produce, package and distribute penicillin products in various dosage forms; the site also features a quality-assurance department.
Teva Canada Centre of Excellence for Packaging—Toronto: At this location—part of our head-office complex—our products are prepared in 600 different strengths and formats for distribution across Canada and around the world. At 335,000 square feet, and with more than 750 employees, 30 Novopharm Court also houses our finance, sales, marketing, customer care, regulatory and government affairs, and human resources departments, as well as our quality-operations group.
